After a series of detailed meetings, and months of discussions of ideas and obstacles, the decision is in. EAA Chapter 790 will host a fly-in, pancake breakfast at Lake in the Hills airport.
A few months ago, our friends at the Lake in the Hills airport approached us with an idea of holding an event to build public awareness, bolster public relations, and to build future business in the aviation community. This presented an opportunity for Chapter 790 to spend a fun day at the airport together, create a little public awareness for the chapter, and raise additional funds to bolster our budget for future projects, the chapter scholarship fund, and some needed upgrades. While hosting the fly-in will be a large effort, especially as this will be our first event of this type at Lake in the Hills airport, we are all working hard to ensure it will be a success.
Rob Nelson got the ball rolling when he began fabricating a rotary, pancake griddle for the chapter, and other organizations to use. This fabrication was put on hold for a number of reasons, including his new business, the initial investment needed for the materials, and most importantly, and unfortunately, the loss of Rob's mother. Again, our heartfelt condolences to the Nelson family.
The idea of an event was still being discussed by the chapter board, and the decision was made to more formally study the feasibility of our chapter running the pancake breakfast at Lake in the Hills. The Feasibility Report addressed the highest priority difficulties immediately and considered all aspects of the event. A determination was made by a preliminary, ad hoc, steering committee, and then by a majority vote by the full chapter board, that Chapter 790 is moving ahead on the Pancake Breakfast event, dubbed Project FlapJack.
There is still a lot of work to be done, but we're on our way. The chapter is now recruiting volunteers for the many positions needing to be filled. Volunteer today. Better yet, volunteer with a friend who is not yet in the chapter. Show him or her what our chapter is all about.
